WHAT IS SERVER LATENCY ?

In today’s fast-paced trading environment YOU WANT TO ELIMINATE ANY POSSIBILITY OF EXECUTION SLIPPAGE.

1. There should be the smallest possible delay between the signal you are executing from your MT4, and the resulting MT4 execution command reaching your broker’s servers.

YOUR VPS should be AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO YOUR BROKER’S SERVER !!!

2. If you are using any type of automatic signal providers, trade copying, or Expert Advisors, or your account is managed by a remotely located live trader, then not only should your VPS be close to your broker’s server, but also the terminal sending that signal (signal, EA, live trader) should be as close as possible to your VPS !

YOUR VPS should be AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO YOUR SIGNAL PROVIDER !!!

How is this related to the concept of server latency? The closer two servers are together, or, the faster the internet speed is between two servers, the lower the latency!

Latency means a delay of any type of internet signal.

So there are de facto two ways of reducing latency between your VPS and both your broker’s server, and any signal providers sending to your terminals:

– reduce geographical distance
– link to higher speed data transmission lines

Brokers have already adapted to these requirements. The server centers operated by most online Forex brokers are clustered in two distinct locations: London, and New York.

These server centers are likewise connected to ultra-fast internet speed data transmission backbones … not some hap-hazard branchlines of the internet.

But rest assured most FX traders trading from home are located quite remotely from these cluster locations, and their internet connection is comparatively slow, and prone to interruptions and delays.

If you operate your MT4 from your home PC, your internet connection is like your driveway on a residential cul de sac. But the internet connection on your VPS is as if your driveway was the on-ramp to a superhighway – directly onto the fastlane …
